Tree Care Tips and Overview
We know that you love keeping your trees healthy & green
Help them from falling victim to summer challenges with Royal Tree Services simple tips
Because summer isn’t always so sweet to your trees, we have created a list of very simple tips you may follow for keeping your trees healthy, green and vigorous. Be aware that watering your trees will help ensure their optimum health, but there are other things you need to do for a complete and proper care of your trees.
- Inspect
Check your trees for damage or warning signs; specifically insects and diseases. If you notice something that could be wrong, contact Royal Trees’ arborist so they can determine whether treatment regimens are necessary.
- Prune
Summer thinning reduces a plant’s water consumption. Most plants can be pruned in the summer. Indeed, this is the best time to do it. In addition, trees that are thinned in this season generally stay thin for a longer period of time.
- Limb Care
Cable, brace or remove weak limbs for helping your trees’ stronger limbs from suffering damage when weaker branches fail and fall. This way, your beloved plants can better resist summer storms and winds.
- Mulch
Mulch is critical to conserve soil moisture. Generally speaking, apply mulch within the drip line, to a depth of 4 inches for optimum results.
- Watering
Roots are the “water drinkers of trees”. It is crucial you apply water in the correct place and correct quantities. Because most of the tree’s absorbing roots are in the top 12 inches of soil, water should be applied within the drip line. Remember to apply water deeply and slowly and in as many locations under the drip line. If you use a deep root fork or needle, insert the device no deeper than 8 inches into the soil.
How much water do my trees need?
Trees and plants in general, have specific watering requirements depending upon season. Denver Summer goes from end of June to August and it is characterized by our dry heat. Here is a basic guide of watering requirements for Denver and other dry zones:
Watering from April through September
When Denver’s watering restrictions prohibit turf watering, or when trees are not in turf areas, water small trees four times per month, medium trees three times per month and large trees two times per month.
All tips previously mentioned are essential and simple for tree maintenance. Contact your local Royal Tree professionally trained arborist for further information.
