Common Tree Care Mistakes

 In Blog

Trees are meant to grow in an environment which needs little to no intervention. Sometimes trees are planted in an environment which is vastly different and needs a substantial amount of upkeep and care. Routine maintenance is the best way to keep your trees healthy and to keep money in your pocket. However, failure to maintain your trees can cause permanent damage. Always make sure to use an arborist rather than a landscaper to maintain your trees. An arborist requires a very special skill set and one mistake can cause damage or death to your tree.

Typically it is a good idea to have an arborist out to look at your trees once a year, many companies provide free estimates and you need to take advantage of this. Many people prune overhanging or low branches in their yard that they can reach. Most times this is not a problem but with the proper pruning techniques you can eliminate doing this as often. A few things you never want to do to your trees are; tree topping, improper pruning, bad timing and over pruning. Often times a homeowner wants to take way to much out of a tree and does not realize that you never want to prune more than twenty five percent of foliage in any given year. This will send the tree into shock causing dead loss and possibly even kill the tree.
